Weekly Reflection #2

This week flew by very fast and its crazy to think that senior project is just about over. Throughout this week we've been working a lot of small tasks as well as seeing the whole layout for senior dinner. Bonnie and Debbie asked for our help in preparing the seating chart for senior dinner. I was impressed by how organized the chart was and how color coordinated it was. Helping them plan that was the highlight of my week while working here. I'm sad that we are almost done with our time here and I'll miss seeing everyone in the office everyday.

Today was a quick day because it was our last day in the office. Bonnie bought everyone in the office lunch from Tuckers which was very nice of her and we also had a small celebration for it being our last day. We did some last minute things such as carried items from the admissions building to the field house. After that was when we all had our celebration. Hours spent today: 5 hours. Total hours spent: 60 hours.

Today I spent the morning writing more thank you letters and helping package envelopes. After doing that for about 2 hours, I went to lunch and then spent the afternoon finishing up the napkins. We were able to finish folding all of the napkins for graduation and senior dinner. Hours spent today: 5 hours. Total hours spent: 55 hours.

In the morning, Wes and I met with Bonnie and Debbie to help them with planning the layout of senior dinner. I found the way they organized it to be very impressive for one small event and I didn't realize how many little factors go into planning an event like this. In the afternoon, we went to the field house to continue to fold more napkins. Hours spent today: 5 hours. Total hours spent: 50 hours.

Today was a pretty relaxed day. We spent the morning putting photos into picture frames and packaging them into boxes for senior dinner. This process took me, Wes, Kate, Bonnie, and Brooke the whole morning to complete. In the afternoon, we worked on a couple of things such as more alumni research and other small projects. Hours spent today: 5 hours. Total hours spent: 35 1/2 hours.

Today, I continued working on a larger task which was researching past alumni at Proctor. I also started a new task which was to organize photos of students in the senior class which will be used at senior diner. At each table there will be a photo of a senior placed in a picture frame for the parents. We also spent some of our time folding more napkins for graduation/ senior dinner. Hours spent today: 5 hours. Total hours spent: 30 1/2 hours.

Weekly Reflection #1

Throughout this week I’ve been able to learn a lot about the development/ alumni office and what exactly they do here. I’ve been able to speak to almost everyone who works here and learn about their specific roles in the office. I also was able to be a part of a meeting with Brian and everyone else in the office to discuss the full schedule for graduation and senior dinner. During that meeting, they discussed many events such as the lineup for commencement and when they will set up the tent. Communicating with everyone in the office is important so that everyone is on the same page and knows what's going on. Everyday, Wes, Kate, and I are usually given tasks which some take longer than others. We usually work together to get them done whether they are to go somewhere on campus or to just stay in the office. I enjoy doing most of the tasks because they most likely involve organizing. I didn’t really know what to expect when signing up to do this for my senior project but so far I ha...

Today was a pretty relaxed because I spent the majority of it in the office working on projects. One of the projects that I started was to seek out past alumni and to find out what they are currently doing as their profession. I was given a long list of names that I wasn't able to finish yet but I will by the end of next week. Another task we had to do was to go to the meeting house and check all the names on the chairs to make sure they correspond with the correct names on the sheet. Overall it was a very productive day and we got a lot done. Hours spent today: 6 hours. Total hours spent: 25 1/2 hours.

Today, we spent the majority finishing up the pins for the upcoming 50th reunion. Once cutting out the photos of every student, we wrote their names on the back and then placed them in a plastic pin. After finishing the pins, we began our next task of packaging gifts for people that recently donated. We gave them coasters with the Proctor symbol on them and then tied a ribbon on them. Half way through the day, Brian and all the other employees in the development office had a meeting which I was a part of. They talked about the whole schedule for graduation and senior diner along with the order at which everything is going to happen at. Hours spent today: 6 hours. Total hours spent: 19 1/2 hours.

Today was a shorter day because I had to leave early for my away game against KUA. Wes, Kate, and I continued to work on collecting pictures of all the students from the classes of '70, '71, '72 for their upcoming reunion. We took screenshots of every single student graduating that year and put them all on a google doc. Their yearbook photos will be cut out and put on a pin which they will wear at their reunion. Hours spent today: 3 1/2 hours. Total hours spent: 13 1/2 hours.

Today was a long day. We spent the morning primarily carrying boxes into a car which was then driven over to the field house. After unloading everything from the car into the field house, we began our next task which was to fold all of the napkins that will be used for graduation. There are a total of 1,800 napkins that need to be folded but today we were able to get about 300 done. In the afternoon, we spent our learning about the database that the development office uses. We also learned about Proctor's alumni linkedin page and how it works in terms of making connections with people. Time spent today: 4 1/2 hours. Time spent in total: 10 hours

Today was my first day working in the development office/ alumni relations. The office is located upstairs in the admissions building. Once I arrived, Bonnie gave me a tour of the office and introduced me to everyone working there. After the introduction, we quickly jumped into our first task of helping for the preparation of graduation. Wes and I were asked to go to the dining hall and to count all the plates that they had. It actually didn't take as long as you would have thought. We needed to know the number of plates they had which would be used on the day of graduation. Afterward, we spent the afternoon cutting and organizing notecards that would be placed tables for senior dinner. We also helped plan a reunion for the class of '72, '71, '70 by finding photos of all the students and putting their faces from their yearbook on a pin at which they would wear during the reunion. After today, I feel excited for the next two weeks and how much we will be able to accompli...
